Vacation Bible School 2009

PRESS RELEASE
HMS Steadfast sailed in Demorestville for Vacation Bible School
Demorestville, Prince Edward County – VeggieTales The Pirates Who Don’t
Do Anything was the theme for the 2009 Vacation Bible School (VBS) at
Friendship United Church in Demorestville, Prince Edward County, where
65 children learned how to become a Hero for God.
Organizers Debbie MacDonald Moynes and Jessica Stuart were thrilled
with the turnout to VBS this year. “We had 65 children register this
year, and 16 of them were 6 year olds”, enthused Moynes. Jessica Stuart
commented that “this year children were making boats out of oranges as
part of the lesson on Paul's shipwreck, completing science experiments
to learn about God's world around them, singing lively songs and
playing co-operative games to reinforce the Bible story each day. Not
only did the kids have fun, but I did too!” She continued, saying “I
look forward to even more exciting activities next year as we explore
the Wildwood Forest!”
Forty-five volunteers helped in large and small ways with the 5 days of
VBS.
“It was wonderful for us to see so many children coming together in
community to learn more about God,” said Rev. Robin Sherman, the
minister at Friendship United Church. Acting as a VBS Leader each day,
Reverend Sherman was pleased that the church was able to carry on the
annual program which has been offered each summer for over 20 years.
The success of VBS is in the new friends made, the fun that is had, and
how God’s love is shown through the work of the volunteers and the joy
of the children.
Next year the children will discover the untamed nature of God in the
Wildwood Forest. Planning is already underway for the 2010 VBS. See the
church website for details.
