Vacation Bible School

PRESS RELEASE

The sun shone in God’s Big Backyard

Demorestville, Prince Edward County – God’s Big Backyard was the theme for the 2008 Vacation Bible School (VBS) at Friendship United Church in Demorestville where 36 children explored a Bible story each day and experienced fun-filled learning centres, music and rhymes, hands-on crafts, snacks and games.

Organizers Debbie MacDonald Moynes and Rev. Gary Magarrell were thrilled with the turnout to VBS this year.  “We had 36 children register this year, and 18 of them were 9-11 year olds”, enthused Moynes.

Nine volunteers helped with programming and another 7 volunteers from the congregation provided snacks morning and afternoon for the 5 days of VBS.

“The children had a great time,” said Rev. Magarrell.  Sharing in the supervision of the children each day as they played on the municipal climber located near the church, Magarrell was pleased that the church was able to carry on the annual VBS which has been offered each summer for over 20 years.

The group leader for the age 6-9 year olds overheard this conversation: Alli “are you coming to this Vacation Bible School next year?” Cole “ya, are you?” Alli “totally!” Cole “cool, I’ll see you here!”

The success of VBS is in the new friends made, the fun that is had, and how God’s love is shown through the work of the volunteers and the joy of the children.

“We’ve started to plan for next year” said Moynes.  The children are counting on it.

Friendship United Church is situated in the village of Demorestville in Prince Edward County.  A centre for Christian worship for over 200 years, this thriving congregation offers traditional and contemporary music during services, active adult and children’s choirs that are looking for new singers, monthly community suppers, Sunday School and nursery services during worship.  For the month of July the Friendship congregation is worshipping with Wesley United Church at 10am in Mountain View.  Services will again be held at Friendship Church, beginning August 3'rd, at 10am.  In September, worship services resume at the regular time of 11am each Sunday morning.

This welcoming congregation says “come as you are, you will be loved.”
